Student Travel

If after attempting to resolve the issues you have at work, you have decided that you still want to leave your job, this must be approved by CIEE before you do anything. Before you make a decision, know that it can be difficult to find a new job. Students who leave one job to find another often have a very hard time and, in some cases, must return home because they run out of money before finding a new job.

If CIEE approves your request to leave your job, it is customary to give two weeks written notice to your current employer before your last day. Handling your departure in the right way will ensure that you receive your final paycheck in a timely manner and affect whether your employer will give you a recommendation letter to use in the future.

If you quit or change your job without first receiving CIEE approval, you risk withdrawal from the CIEE Work & Travel USA program and be required to return home.

Find a New Job

If you receive approval from CIEE to change your employer, you will have 30 days to report a new employer and submit an Employer Offer Agreement Form to CIEE. If you do not find a new employer in this time, you may be withdrawn from the program and required to return home early. Call CIEE or email us once a week during your job search to keep us informed of your progress. Keep CIEE informed of any change in address during your search.

Leaving Your Job

In order to avoid any problems with your employer before you leave your job, follow these basic instructions:

• Ask your employer when you should expect to receive your last paycheck and how you will receive payment.
• If your employer provided accommodation, and you paid a security deposit, ask your employer to return your security deposit before you leave.
• Keep your employer's name, mailing address, telephone, fax number, and email address in order to contact your employer in case of any future problems.
